no longer slaves to sin

Romans 6:14 "Sin can’t tell you how to live. After all, you’re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You’re living in the freedom of God."

In a spiritual sense, we are all slaves to something; either slaves to sin or slaves to Christ. To be a slave to something is to be a person who serves the will of his/her master. Slaves have no will of their own and live in bondage of their master. When we let sin become our master we are unable to resist it and essentially we lose our whole purpose in life.. but wait there is good news!! We can overcome the power of sin by the power of Christ. We have been set free from sin and have become slaves of righteousness. Your walk, your talk, your habits, and your lifestyle have been changed all for His glory. There is NOTHING we have or will endure that Jesus hasn't already overcome! We are no longer "dead in sin" but now "dead to sin."

We find ourselves in bondage to things that are not pleasing to God and our relationship to him. Whether it's toxic friendships or bad habits, we all share the same struggle of being a slave to some type of sin; it's our human nature. We can become a slave to anything: anxiety, fear, depression, etc. Often times we think because we are living for Jesus that our sin will go away magically. That isn't the case, but you can conquer the power that sin has over your life! When your hate for sin is strong enough, you can deny the sin that seems to force you to think or act in ways that are not pleasing to God. Obedience to God and His truths sets you free.

There is freedom in His presence. Our old sinful ways were nailed to the cross when Jesus died for us. You share His new life and you are now alive to new power!

When you allow sin in your life, you put yourself in a losing battle. I am here to remind you today to STOP FIGHTING! Pick up God's grace and use it as a shield for when the enemy tries to pick a fight with you. If it's sin vs. grace, grace always wins! His grace will empower you to turn from what's destroying you. It will give you power to walk according to His word and transform you from the inside out. When we choose to believe God's grace is at work in our lives, this allows us to walk away from sin and temptation. The power within God is so much stronger than the power within us.

I've often seen God's grace as an excuse to override the accountability of sin. We consume ourselves with the attitude of "if forgiveness is guaranteed, I can sin as I want." LOSE THAT ATTITUDE! God's grace is not to be taken advantage of. His forgiveness doesn't make sin any less serious. Don't let the availability of God's mercy become an excuse for careless living. When we go through a spiritual death and renewal we die to our old sinful nature and are renewed. Don't become a grace abuser.

If you believe your temptation has power over you, you will be controlled by it. If you fear you will continue to give into the same temptation, you will receive what you believe. The temptation you are struggling with has no real power over you. The only power it has is the power you give it. Get in agreement with God's word and believe you are no longer bound to sin but heirs of God's glory! The more you become consumed with Jesus and His good grace, you'll notice yourself no longer being consumed by those things not from Jesus. This is such a beautiful and fulfilling thing.

Psalm 103:10 says, "He does not treat us as our sins deserve." God wants all of you. The good, the bad, and the ugly, the areas you're weak in, and the areas you're strong in. Don't let your sin push you away from the love of Jesus. There is nothing more that He wants than to be there, walking with you through every moment. I stay in awe at the fact that we serve a God who loves us enough to hate the very thing that hurts us without hating us for causing it. No matter what, you are loved and sought after. There is nothing you can do to break His overwhelming love and mercy.

Declare over yourself today:

I am redeemed. I have God's supernatural power over my life. A flood of His power, strength, and grace are coming because where I am weak He is strong! I am an overcomer. The chains of sin no longer have a hold on me!
